History

The company was started in September 2001 when founders Mr Lum Kin Wah together with Mr Chan Lim Yan remodelled the survey company, L Y Chan Consultancy Pte Ltd that was started 5 months earlier by Mr Chan to do H&M insurance survey, into a specialist engineering services provider dealing with Tribon 3-D modelling for newbuilding production information.

With special emphasis on the company’s main core business in computer aided design and computer aided machining activities, the company was named Marine Cadcam Pte Ltd.

Formation of the company was made possible after securing of the Tribon Softwares Privilege scheme that enabled free use of licences on condition of payment of levies on fees earned. The scheme was secured for 5 years period.

The main office was set up in Singapore at a Jurong Tuas workshop where it did marketing, and contracting Tribon modelling and engineering drafting work. The main core business activities at the initial period and up to now, remains Tribon modelling production information work, and over time, has slowly gone on to do some design work. The front office in Singapore, and production centre in Batam through the wholly owned PT Marine Cadcam Indonesia (MCCI).

The Batam office was manned by a senior partner who owned part of the Batam office, and together with four staff members. Shortly afterward, our Argentinian friend Frederick Cooke was assisting as a consultant. A wide range of engineering design work and Tribon modelling work of small crafts consisting of 28m tugs to 50m catamaran to 75m Ocean going supply vessel to 30,000DWT tanker were contracted, Marine Cadcam name was built up.

Staff strength in the Singapore and Batam office increased to 5 and 15 in 2003 respectively.

A low period in end of 2002 threatened the survival of the company, and both directors, Mr Lum and Mr Chan had to find work else beside running MCC, and staff in the Singapore office were retrenched in order to maintain the staff in the Batam office where it was the producing centre.

MCCPL entered offshore structures Tribon modelling in end of 2003, and from then on, it was the main business of the company. Clients include PPL Shipyard, Jurong Shipyard, Sembawang Shipyard, Malaysian Marine Heavy Industry, and lately Dyna-Mac Engineering Services.

By July 2006, Mr Chan had acquired all shares of MCC / MCCI from Mr Lum and the third shareholder, when the company went up for sale due to need for more cash injection as Free Tribon Licence scheme came to an end in September 2006.

By end of 2006, there were two major offshore structures Tribon modelling in hand that required more manpower, staff strength in the Batam office grew to 45 while Singapore office was run by Mr Chan and help from his wife, as by end February 2007, Mr Lum had resigned from the Board of Directors to concentrate on his work in PT Batamec.
